Mothership Conversations invites audiences beyond the exhibition walls to hear directly from the artists about the lived experiences that inform their work. Together, they will reflect on how motherhood has shaped their artistic practices, challenged ideas of productivity and success, and inspired new ways of making, collaborating and building creative communities.
Taking place at the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week, this discussion will also explore themes of nourishment, care, touch and the maternal body, considering how these deeply personal experiences can become powerful subjects within contemporary art. Rather than presenting a single story of motherhood, the conversation embraces the diversity of maternal experiences and the many ways they influence creative practice.
The Mothership Residency was founded on the belief that artists should not have to choose between creative practice and parenthood. Through dedicated studio space, childcare, mentoring and peer support, the programme creates the conditions for artist mothers to develop ambitious new work while fostering a supportive creative community.
Following the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity for audience questions and informal conversation with the artists.

We will have our Stay & Play area in the garden open, so children can play and stay occupied while the discussion takes place, making the event more accessible for parents and carers.
