Our first Residency offer is SOUP:
Stryx invites applications for the next round of our SOUP Residency, a supported opportunity for early-career artists based in the West Midlands. This two-month residency offers space, time, and support to develop your work in the creative heart of Digbeth, Birmingham.
SOUP is designed for artists who thrive in a collaborative studio environment and who are keen to engage with Stryx’s wider community of artists, curators, and audiences. We welcome applicants across disciplines, including (but not limited to): visual art, live art, sound, music, film, movement, and socially engaged practices.
What’s Included
- £1264 residency bursary based on 80 hours paid at Artist Union rates (early-career level)
- Two-month studio residency at Stryx (April and May 2027)
- 24/7 access to large, shared workspace
- Use of AV/darkroom facilities (if applicable)
- Mentoring and curatorial support
- Opportunities to showcase work at three public events:
- Introductory event (Digbeth First Friday)
- Mid-point open studio
- Final showcase (partner gallery solo exhibition)

Secondly we have the Mothership Residency
Stryx invites applications for The Mothership Residency, a fully funded opportunity designed for mother artists and creatives with children aged 0–2.
We welcome early- and mid-career mother creatives from any discipline who are ready to re-engage with their practice in a supportive, child-inclusive space. This residency is specifically designed for those without access to dedicated studio space and childcare access. We will prioritise applicants from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We will also prioritise applications from mothers with children under 9 months old, recognising that government-funded childcare is not yet available for this age group.
We recognise the unique challenges of balancing caregiving and creative work. Mothership offers both the time and physical space to make art, and on-site, integrated childcare to support you while you do it.
What’s Included:
- 6-month studio residency for 4 artists (March 2027 – August 2027) at Stryx Jewellery Quarter site
- Studio space with full-time access
- 4 hours of on-site childcare per week
- £500 production micro-bursary
- Final exhibition of residency work at Stryx September 2027- January 2028
- Possibility of delivering public workshops and talks
- Monthly access to Stryx Studio Holders meetings / crits / skill shares

Lastly our SPOT VR Residency
This is a flexible online residency for Global Majority artists exploring Virtual Reality and digital creative practice.
Stryx invites applications for our Spot VR Residency, dedicated to West Midlands-based artists representing the global majority backgrounds, who are interested in exploring Virtual Reality (VR) as a creative tool.
We are particularly looking to support female-identifying artists, performers, makers, and crafters who are new to working in VR or wish to further develop existing digital practices.
This is an opportunity to creatively experiment with both physical and digital space at Stryx, culminating in a public exhibition as part of Digbeth First Friday in Winter 2027.
What’s Included
- A 4–8 week flexible residency for 1 early career artist
- £1243 residency bursary based on 60 hours paid at Artist Union rates (graduate and 5+ years experience)
- Access to Stryx gallery/project space
- Technical support for VR production
- Access to VR technology (software and hardware)
- Curatorial and mentoring support
- A final solo (VR gallery) and duo exhibition (Digbeth gallery)
No prior experience in VR or digital art is necessary - we welcome curiosity, experimentation, and artists excited to take creative risks.
