Rhythmical: The particles, the cave, the brain & the body marks the culmination of Ian’s residency explorations within Stryx’s gallery in Minerva Works. Expect colossal drawings suspended with piano wire and a special collaboration with mentee and early career Soup residency artist Jacob Carter, who supplied an automated drawing machine to match Ian’s data stream pieces, this is a real spectacle and immersive exhibition that just begs to be explored.

"My collaboration with particle physicist Professor Kostas Nikolopoulos “The sketchbook and the Collider,” seeks equivalents between the language of drawing and the interaction of fundamental particles. It has broadened working with Professor Clare Anderson responding to her investigation into disruptions of neuronal networks. Artistic research connecting the two suggests a “rhythmical pattern or choreography” underlying reality and unfolding at radically different scales. Recent work has attempted to combine moving image and three dimensions with the drawn language to create a world in which you can totally immerse yourself”.

STOCK POT STORIES: Soup ptVII Artist Residency and Development Programme, is the newest iteration of the established Soup residency, providing a combined approach to the growth of local artistic talent, partnering with Eagle Works in Wolverhampton.

The project is a catalyst to strengthen relationships & exchanges between the partners, supporting a strategy to build a strong connected local arts community and allows expansion of networks & diversification of audiences across Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
